Il ciclo di Pendragon * Pendragon’s Series
Stephen Lawhead ha creato uno splendido ciclo di romanzi arturiani a cominciare dalle origini atlantidee di Avalon e dalle antiche leggende gallesi, che precedono le versioni medievali di Merlino e Artù. La scrittura sublime conduce chi legge in un regno incantato e complesso, che si sente molto vero.
Come spiega l’autore, a fine 1800 il prof. Rhys fece ricerche sulle leggende celtiche e suggerì che LLyonesse (antico nome dell’estremità sudoccidentale della Britannia) e Atlantide fossero collegate, e che molte delle leggende relative al popolo fatato derivassero da tale connessione. Ciò potrebbe spiegare molto sui miti di Taliesin, Merlino e Artù.
In italiano è possibile trovare ancora alcune copie di questi romanzi, pubblicati negli anni ’90 e attualmente fuori catalogo, nei siti o mercatini dell’usato.
Il primo libro del ciclo è TALIESIN:
Il romanzo si alterna tra Atlantide, dove incontriamo la principessa Charis, colei che diventerà la Dama del Lago, e la Britannia, dove il neonato orfano Taliesin viene trovato e adottato dal principe Elfin. Dopo la caduta di Atlantide, il re Avallach - che si convertirà al cristianesimo dopo l’incontro con alcuni monaci e diventerà il noto re pescatore - e la sua famiglia approdano in Britannia, dove creano un palazzo e un nuovo regno (Ynis Virtin). Nel frattempo, Taliesin diventerà un bardo eccezionale e dimostrerà anche capacità profetiche. Quando il popolo di Elfin dovrà lasciare le proprie terre, devastate dagli invasori, cercherà un'alleanza con il "popolo delle fate", ovvero gli atlantidei, e tra Chiaris e Taliesin nascerà l'amore che genererà il mago più famoso di tutti i tempi.

Stephen Lawhead built an extraordinary series of Arthurian novels beginning from the Atlantean origins of Avalon and the ancient Welsh legends, that precede the Medieval storis of Merlin and Arthur. Lawhead’s beautiful writing takes the readers into an enchanted and complex world, a world that feels very real.
As explained by the author, in the late 1800s professor Rhys researched thoroughly the Celtic legends and tales and suggested that Llyonesse (an old name for the extreme southwest portion of Britain) and Atlantis were connected, and that many of the legends involving Fair Folk derived from this connection. This could explain a lot about the myth of Taliesin, Merlin, and Arthur.
The first book in the series is TALIESIN:
It switches through Atlantis – where we encounter princess Charis, who will later become the Lady of the Lake – and Britain – where prince Elfin finds and adopts little orphan Taliesin. After the fall of Atlantis, King Avallach – who will convert to Christianity after meeting some monks, and later become the famous Fisher King – and his family land in Britain, where they build a palace and a new kingdom (Ynis Vitrin). Taliesin will become an exceptional bard, with prophetic abilities. When Elfin’s people are forced to leave their homes after an invasion, they look for an alliance with the “fairy folks” (the Atlanteans), and Charis and Taliesin fall in love, giving birth to the most famous magician of all times.
